Packing Boxes - How To Effectively Pack
Packing boxes can be tricky to pack effectively, especially if you're in a hurry. The best way to pack is to start early, take your time and begin with a strategy. By using the best strategy for appliances, clothing, breakables and valuables you're sure to arrive at your new destination with all of your possessions intact.
Packing boxes is made easier when you pack one room at a time. Label each box and be sure you don't pack any box too heavily. This will make it difficult for the movers to lift and can make damage more likely. The bathrooms are usually the easiest place to start because there is often little furniture. Almost everything in the bathroom can be packed together with little worry of breaking.
Next, tackle the bedrooms. Large furniture like the dressers should be packed with care. Fill the drawers with loose clothing and small, breakable items. Pad the dresser and tape it closed. Make sure you don't put anything too heavy in the drawers. The bed frame should be dismantled and the rails and cross pieces can be tied together. The mattress can be covered with a mattress cover if desired. Clothing can be packed up in wardrobe packing boxes or large packing boxes. Comforters and pillows do well in very large moving boxes and can also be used to protect small, fragile items.
The living room is the next place to pack. Lamps should be disassembled and packed in packing boxes with bubble wrap. Delicate furniture should be carefully covered with stretch wrap and bubble wrap to prevent scratches and damage. Paintings and mirrors should be wrapped with paper. Televisions should be boxed upright, padded and labeled. Chair legs and arms need to be wrapped.
Lastly, the kitchen requires a great deal of packing care because of the high volume of fragile items. Dishes absolutely need to be wrapped individually and placed in packing boxes on edge, not stacked. Glasses must also be wrapped separately in bubble wrap. Small appliances in the kitchen do best in original containers or cushioned packing boxes. Large appliances require special packing instructions. The refrigerator and freezer, for example, must be defrosted and dried carefully. The interior should be filled with clothing, stuffed animals or curtains. The dishwasher and washing machine need to be stuffed with towels between the drums so they do not rotate. They must also be disconnected, padded and wrapped in plastic. Once you've packed the kitchen you've done the hardest part and should take the time to relax.
