This was perhaps the worst stay in a motel i have ever had in my life! We checked in about 8 pm after traveling for 4 hours. Immediately from the outside the motel appeared old and uncared for. Checking in the desk was easy, although the foreign nationality desk worker was hard to understand. We were placed in room 201 next to the stair well.
Upon opening the door one nearly gagged from the smell. This hotel was likely a completely smoking hotel at one time. However due to city ordinances was forced non-smoking. However, they never cleaned the smell from the room just reclassified it. To simply describe the smell, it was a cross between strong musk and the smell of cat pee. The floors were sticky, and for the first time while staying in motels I wouldn't walk in the room without my shoes on. At least somewhat of a saving grace was that you could open the windows which helped the smell some. However we both contemplated sleeping in our car or booking a different room at a different motel.

How to clean up sticky wax?

Hey casey,
I work for The Home Depot and have worked with helping my customers for years getting the right cleaning items for various jobs.
You will need to find a cleaning product that works as a degreaser or has degreasing agents in it.
I have found that a lot of products that are degreasers out there can do the trick. Some of the items include:
Simple Green
Krud Kutter (one of my faves)
Formula 409
Goof Off
Unless the wax is some sort of oil-based or commercial based product, these items may or may not work out.
Another that maybe one of the better ones to use to get the wax up is called Mostenbocker's Lift Off. It has a goofy name, but customer's swear by it, and it gets off almost anything without discoloring anything either. Almost all of these products can be found at a home center nearest you.
With any liquid, you'll need to probably use some sort of scraper or tool to help get the liquid in and on vertical surfaces. You may need rags or light steel wool to help clean up the area afterwards too.
