How To Wax A Snowboard
If you decided to purchase your very own snowboard, chances are you'll be wanting to care for it as best you can. part of the care responsibilities is waxing the base frequently. The reason you wax the board is not to increase grip like waxing surfboards, it is to make the board more slippery and faster on the slopes. The wax on a snowboard actually soaks into the base when it is applied. When you ride on the snow the wax actually causes a melting effect, so essentially you end up planing on a micro-thin water layer. Here is how to wax your board properly
Remove old wax. Ensure that you've cleaned the base well and removed any covering before applying a new wax coat. This can be done by scraping it down with a plastic utensil using long strokes. You may want to use a hair-dryer to soften the wax and base cleaner which you can get from a snowboards retailer. The base can be scratched or cut if you use a metal utensil though, so avoid these at all costs.
Iron on the wax. Take an iron and set the temperature so that it just melts the new wax slowly. More often than not this is the same heat you need to a piece of cotton clothing. When the correct temperature has been reached, drip the wax over the base in lines by holding the wax bar against the iron above the board. Now iron the board directly and move it all around so that every inch has a thin wax coating.
Finishing. After around 30-35min cooling time, you can now work on finishing the board. This basically involves buffing the base down with a clean cloth until it gives off a good shine. Finally texture the wax and remove any prominent areas by brushing it down with a hard-bristled brush, before buffing it for a final time. Now your ready for a little extreme sports
